An onlooker of the phonograph’s early stages of development once postulated that, “future generations will be able to condense within the space of twenty minutes a tone-picture of a single lifetime: five minutes of a child’s prattle, five of the boy’s exultations, five of the man’s reflections, and five from the feeble utterances of the deathbed.”

It is in accordance with this notion that we’ve carefully selected and compiled sides from our collection of 78rpm records; a tone-picture in two parts reflecting the changing of the seasons. The first tracks of the presentation suggest the heat of the summer – outward displays of a fleeting joie de vivre and the sense of vacant time so emblematic of the sweltering days of August. However, the cuts that follow leave the impression of the cool, alienated, and solitary moments we often associate with autumn. With thirteen tracks from around the world we have attempted to reproduce and pay homage to the hot thrill of summertime, while ushering in, with a silent smile, the cool breeze of the fall – that season so welcoming to the isolated soul.

In the spirit of rejuvenating nostalgia, and in the words of our postulator, we eagerly submit to you exultations from the brittle, disc shaped deathbed; a once lively place that demanded an undivided attention made so superfluous by contemporary music listening practices.
